Jaime Ochoa

Jaime Ociel Ochoa Jr. is currently in his 12th year teaching as an assistant band director. He recently graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with his master’s degree in music, where he previously earned his undergraduate degrees in music education and performance.

Jaime is currently teaching trumpet in Roma ISD from 6th to 12th grade, conducts the Roma HS Symphonic Band, and is also an assistant at Ramiro Barrera Middle School. Jaime has a diverse teaching and performing background ranging in various genres such as band, orchestra, jazz, and mariachi. He previously held positions in Brownsville ISD at Veterans Memorial Early College High School, Brownsville Cummings Middle School, and at Rio Grande City-Grulla ISD.

Jaime has had several high brass students earn Region, Area, and State accolades- including having his students earn a chair in the TMEA All-State Orchestras, Bands, and Jazz Ensembles. He has also had several students medal at UIL Region and State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Also, some of his students have participated in the National Youth Orchestra 2, and the 46th International Trumpet Guild Conference in San Antonio, TX. As an alumnus from Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, Jaime has had various students participate in several drum corps such as Guardians, Genesis, Crossmen, Carolina Crown, Cadets, Bluecoats, and Blue Devils.

Jaime’s bands have consistently earned superior ratings in UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest. In 2024, the Roma High School Symphonic Band earned Best in Class at the American Classic Lone Star Music Classic Festival in Denton, TX. As an assistant these past two years, the Roma High School Gladiator Marching Band has earned the Bands of America South Texas Regional back to back Champion and has advanced to the UIL State Marching 5A Finals for the first time in school history. In 2023, The Roma High School Symphonic Winds earned First Runner Up for the TMEA 5A Honor Band process, and in 2022, the Gladiator Marching Band advanced to finals at the BOA Waco Regional.

Jaime currently lives in Rio Grande City, TX with his wife, Priscilla and two loving children Luke and Arabella.
